Recently, I was given an opportunity to be on stage to anchor an event. I knew I had to be my best to get the best from the event. It wasn’t just about holding the mic or being confident; it was about delivering with excellence, connecting with people, and leaving a mark. That experience made me reflect on what it really takes to be your best in anything you do whether it’s speaking, teaching, serving, writing, leading, or even learning. So, here’s a heartfelt breakdown, not from a textbook, but from real experience.

1. See Every Opportunity as a Platform, Not a Pressure

When you approach anything work, performance, or responsibility as a chance to grow, shine, and give your best, everything changes. That stage was more than a mic it was a moment to give value. Don’t let fear shrink your confidence. Shift your mindset. Tell yourself: “This is a moment to give, not just to prove.”

2. Prepare Like It’s a Privilege

If you treat an assignment like a burden, you’ll do it halfway. But if you see it as a privilege, your preparation will show it. I rehearsed for days before the event. I researched the audience. I tuned my tone. I prayed. I asked for feedback. Excellence never comes by chance it’s always prepared.

3. Be Present Where Your Feet Are

This one’s simple but deep: Be fully there. When you’re doing anything, give it your full attention. Stop worrying about the next thing. Be in the moment. When I was on that stage, I wasn’t thinking about Instagram or my next gig I was present. That presence connects you to people. That’s when your best starts to come alive.

4. Don’t Just Perform Connect

The best people in any field aren’t the loudest they’re the most connected. They connect to people, to purpose, to the moment. If you’re in a room, feel the people. If you’re writing, think of the reader. If you’re teaching, lean into your students. You can’t be your best in isolation your best comes alive through connection.

5. Keep Learning, Keep Refining

Being your best isn’t a destination it’s a process. I learn after every stage I mount. I evaluate what I did well, and what I could do better. If you keep learning, you keep improving. Growth is the fuel of greatness. Your best today shouldn’t be your best tomorrow.

6. Carry the Right Heart

Skill is great. Talent is amazing. But heart is everything. When your motives are pure, your delivery becomes powerful. Do it to serve, not just to shine. When I go on stage, I pray: “Lord, let this moment bless someone.” That intention shapes everything.

7. Rest and Recharge

To give your best, you can’t be running on empty. You need rest. You need to recharge. Take care of your body, your spirit, your peace. A tired soul can’t perform at its best. Find your rhythm. Know when to pause, then return with fire.

What I think:

Being your best isn’t perfection it’s intentionality. It’s doing what you do with your whole heart. Whether you’re a student, a creative, a leader, or just figuring life out, give your best in every moment, every task, every chance you get. Because guess what? You don’t rise to the level of your wishes. You rise to the level of your preparation, presence, and purpose. So, next time you’re handed the mic or the pen, the idea, the task show up with fire. Not just to impress, but to impact. Be your best. The world deserves it. So do you.
